15 Selected as MWC Scholar Athletes

PROVO, Utah (June 28, 2011) – The Mountain West Conference announced the recipients of the MWC Scholar-Athlete Award with 15 BYU swimmers named to the list. 

“Our athletes know that the classroom comes first and that swimming is really just the icing on the cake,” BYU head coach Tim Powers said. “It’s their successes in school that gives them the real opportunities in life.” 

To qualify for this award, student-athletes must complete at least two academic terms and maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or better while participating in varsity competition in an NCAA sport. 

The following is a break down of athletes and GPAs

Chad Fong – 3.51 
Matt Okelberry – 3.62 
Stephen Richards – 3.85 
Chad Sorenson – 4.00 
Andrew Rutherfurd – 3.91 

Jessica Ampuero – 3.74 
Sara Jayne Baldwin – 3.59 
Angela Bennion – 3.94 
Kelsey Dickson – 3.69 
Kelsey Higginson – 3.90
