Men Lead In Day Two Of MWCC

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Day two of the Mountain West Conference Championships proved to be successful for the BYU swimmers and divers as the men’s team currently leads in first with 297 points while the women are close behind SDSU with 207 points.

In the 400 medley relay, the women’s team of Candice Smith, Kim Welch, Sara Jayne Baldwin and Aleesha Miller finished fourth with a time of 3:39.61.

The men’s team of Jake Taylor, Ryan Krause, Chad Sorenson and Christian Keil came in at sixth in the same event with their time of 3:17.65.

John Kendrick took second place in the 500 free with his time of 4:23.24, while freshman Allie Dodds finished fifth in the same event for the women with her time of 4:53.43.

Senior Rachel Grant tallied a first place finish in the 200 IM with her time of 1:59.40. Teammate Sara Jayne Baldwin touched in at third with her time of 2:00.4.

In the same event, Jake Taylor and Vytenis Slenys had a 1, 2 finish with Taylor recording a first place time of 1:45.55. Slenys came in at second behind Taylor with his time of 1:48.22.

In the 50 free, Aleesha Miller finished with a time of 22.80 for fifth place. Taryn Toolson finished behind her at 22.92 for sixth place.

On the boards, Sam Hatch finished in second place in the men’s 3-meter competition with a prelim score of 268.30 and a final of 362.20. Teammate Travis Day received a final score of 314.80 to take fifth place.
