Cougars See Success In First Day Of MWCC

OKLAHOMA CITY -- During the first day of the Mountain West Conference Championships, Brandon Watson owned the boards taking first place in the men’s 1-meter competition.

On the boards, Watson received a preliminary score of 346.65 and a final of 348.40.

Dana Christensen finished seventh for BYU in the women’s 3-meter competition, receiving a prelim score of 317.05 and a final of 255.40

Divers weren’t the only ones to see success. The men’s 800 free relay team of Jake Taylor, Christian Keil, Chad Fong and John Kendrick finished first with a time of 6:32.64.

The women’s 800 free relay team of Rachel Grant, Kim Welch, Allie Dodds and Candice Smith placed fifth with their time of 7:21.90.

In the 200 medley relay, the women’s team of Smith, Welch, Sara Jayne Baldwin and Aleesha Miller finished third with a time of 1:40.23, while the men’s team of Taylor, Jordan Fletcher, Chad Sorenson and Ryan Krause finished fifth in the same event with their time of 1:29.44.

The men’s team is currently sitting in first with 121 points ahead of Wyoming (105) and the University of Utah (91).

The women are in third with 78 points behind SDSU’s 99 and New Mexico’s 97.
