Watson Wins Boards Against Stanford

PROVO -- Junior Brandon Watson recorded a double win Friday as the Cougar dive team faced off with Stanford.

“Brandon is doing really well and is showing us some nice things,” BYU head diving coach Keith Russell. “He can dive well at all levels and we’re looking forward conference in a couple weeks. The bigger the meet, the better he performs.”

Watson won the 1-meter diving competition with a final score of 372.20, ahead of Stanford’s Dhruv Tyagi who scored 336.15.

In the 3-meter competition, Watson recorded a first place score of 409.50. Second place went Brent Eichenseer of Stanford with his final score of 363.35.

In the women’s 1-meter competition, Dayna Christensen placed second for the Cougars while teammate Syrena Miskin took third. Christensen’s final score was 269.50, while Miskin’s was 264.60.

Christensen grabbed the second place finish once more in the 3-meter competition, scoring 310.20 as a final.

The BYU divers will next compete with the rest of the swim and dive team in Oklahoma City for conference championships on Feb. 23-26.
