Grant Finishes 25th at NCAAs
INDIANAPOLIS -- On the last day of competition at the women’s swimming and diving NCAA National Championships, junior swimmer Rachel Grant broke the BYU all-time record in the 200-yard butterfly, placing 25th in the event.
“It was nice to get ourselves back on the scoreboard again after a couple years absence,” said BYU head coach Tim Powers. “Tawni had a great showing on the 1-meter board on Thursday, earning the best finish of her career. Rachel swam a lifetime best in the 200 fly and had a strong finish – one of the fastest last 50 times out of the field.”
Grant earned a 1:57.69 in the 200 fly to break the BYU all-time record of 1:57.92, placing 25th in the event, her highest seeding in the event of her career.
“We look forward to Brandon Watson competing next week at the men’s National Championships,” said Powers. “He has done a great job this season and we look forward to seeing what he can do next week.”
Watson will be competing March 25-27 at the men’s swimming and diving National Championships in Columbus, Ohio. Check back to www.byucougars.com/swimming_diving/ to follow Watson and the Cougars.
