Jones and Grant Head to NCAA Championships
PROVO -- Junior swimmer Rachel Grant and senior diver Tawni Jones will be representing BYU at the Women’s NCAA National Swim and Dive Championships in Indianapolis, Ind. March 18-20.
“Rachel and Tawni have both had incredible seasons in their respective events,” said BYU head coach Tim Powers. “We are excited to see how they will perform on the national level.”
Grant was named Swimmer of the Year along with Meghan Zimmer of San Diego State at the Mountain West Conference Championships. Grant won two titles at MWC Championships in the 400 individual medley and 200 fly, as well as placing second in the 200 IM – she will compete in all three events at Nationals. Grant tallied 21 first-place finishes during the dual meet season – more than any other Cougar on the season.
At the NCAA Zone E Diving Championships, Jones finished third on the 1-meter board (597.85) and fourth on the 3-meter board with a final score of 610.15 points to qualify her for Nationals. At MWC Championships, Jones won both the 1-meter and 3-meter titles, as well as MWC female Diver of the Year. Tallying 14 first-place finishes and six MWC Diver of the Week honors, Jones led her Cougars to the fourth MWC title in four years.
