COLLEGE STATION -- BYU’s only swimmer at NCAA Championships, Rachel Grant, placed 29th in the 400 Individual Medley in Friday’s competition and 33rd in the 200 fly in Saturday’s competition held at Texas A&M.

“Rachel did a great job today,” said BYU head coach Tim Powers. “Coach Crump had her ready to go and she swam a great time for the morning. This was her first NCAA Championship and she performed very well.”

“I was really happy with my swim today,” said Grant. “It’s usually really hard for me to get up early and swim fast. Even though my time was a couple tenths of a second slower than my best time, I was still very pleased with my swim.”

Grant went into the competition ranked 36th with a time of 4:13.38, achieved at the Mountain West Conference Championships. She finished 29th out of 49 swimmers in the 400 IM with a time of 4:13.67, with only the top 16 making it to the finals.

Grant completed her competition at the NCAA Championships Saturday, swimming the 200 fly with a time of 1:58.31, less than a second off of her MWC Championship time (1:57.79). She went into the competition ranked 40th and moved up seven places to 33rd.

Speaking of the possibilities of future NCAA Championships, Powers said, “This is something we can build on. We are really excited about getting to this competition and doing well.”
