Zone E Diving Complete

AUSTIN -- Five Cougar divers return from Zone E NCAA Qualifying Championships, not one being able to make it to the NCAA Championships.

“It wasn’t our best competition, but yet I think we did the best out of everyone in the conference,” said BYU diving coach Keith Russell.

Just missing the NCAA-Championship cut was BYU All-American diver Tawni Jones, finishing sixth on both the 3-meter and 1-meter boards, the top five making the cut. She scored a total 559.15 points on the 3-meter board on Thursday and 502.85 points on the 1-meter board on Friday.

Ava Jackman made it to the finals on the 1-meter board, placing eighth in the prelims and 11th in the finals with a total score of 478.85.

Sam Hatch and Ron Morris finished 12th and 16th, respectively, on the 1-meter board on Thursday. Hatch scored a 536.20 and Morris scored a 509.10.

In Friday’s competition Morris made it to finals on the 3-meter with a preliminary score of 306.00. He finished 11th in the event with a total score of 590.65.

Morris and Hatch finished 10th and 18th, respectively, on the platform. Morris tallied a total of 554.10 points while Hatch finished with 435.30 points.

Emily Woods finished 23rd on the 3-meter board with a point total of 226.65 while Jackman posted a 210.20 in 31st place on the same board.

This competition concludes the diving team’s 2008-09 season.
