Divers to Take on Boise State
PROVO -- After returning from the Wildcat Invitational in Tucson before Thanksgiving, the Cougar divers are back at home this week to host the BYU Diving Invitational Friday and Saturday with the Boise State Broncos visiting.
“It’s a great opportunity for our younger divers to shine,” said BYU diving coach Keith Russell. “It will be exciting to see what the younger divers can do with the competition.”
Because many of the experienced upperclassmen divers are sick, the underclassmen will have their shot at Division I competition. The diving on both Friday and Saturday will start at 10 a.m., concluding around 2 p.m.
At the Wildcat Invitational hosted by the University of Arizona, juniors Emily Woods and Ava Jackman had top scores for the women, while freshman Sam Hatch and sophomore Ron Morris led the men.
Woods finished fourth out of 40 divers on the 1-meter springboard with a point total of 272.10. Jackman was close behind Woods in the 1-meter finals in sixth place with a score of 270.85. She also finished sixth on the 3-meter board for BYU with a score of 267.30.
Hatch finished first in the 3-meter consolation round with a score of 340.30 with Morris in third with 294.05 points. Hatch also finished sixth out of 28 divers in the 1-meter finals with a point total of 308.10.
