AUSTIN -- The BYU women's diving team returned from a good showing against some of the nations best divers as they participated in the Texas Invitational over the weekend. The Cougars had two top-ten finishes in the 1-meter competition.

"The women represented us in a really good fashion," BYU diving coach Keith Russell said. "We didn't do as well on the 3-meter board as we could have but overall we did a good job."

In a meet that featured the two of the top four teams in the nation, BYU sophomore Ava Jackman and sophomore Tawni Jones reached the finals in the 1-meter competition as they finished fifth and seventh, respectively. Jackman scored 256.65 points for her dive in the 1-meter, while Jones was awarded 252.55 points for her dive in the same event.

The 3-meter board was the other event that the Cougar women competed in at the invitational. BYU had three divers finish in the top fifteen from the 3-meter board. Senior Angela Nelson placed the highest among the Cougars as she came in tenth (264.10), and following not much behind her, Jones came in thirteenth and Jackman in fifteenth.

The BYU men's and women's swim and dive teams are finished with their fall semester competitions and will next be in action on Jan. 10, 2008 against TCU here in Provo.
