PROVO -- BYU coach Stan Crump and the Cougar women swim and dive team are heading to Houston, Texas, this weekend to participate in the Phill Hansel Duals. The University of Houston hosts the event, which will include the University of New Orleans, Florida International and Rice University have been invited. The events will begin at 5 p.m. on Friday and at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.

"The teams we are going up against are all very good," Crump said. "One thing that our team is excited about is that we seldom get to compete with these schools so it will provide competition we have never seen before."

Although this is an invitational meet, it will not be scored in the typical invitational format. All five of the participating teams will be competing against one another in a dual-meet scoring system. With this change in scoring, it is possible for the best team on the weekend to walk away with four dual-meet victories added to its overall record.

This event will mark two firsts for the Cougar women swimmers. One is that it will be the first time this year that they will be competing at sea level which BYU hopes will play to its advantage. Second, it will be the first time this season that any Cougar swimmers will compete in the 200-yard breaststroke, 200 backstroke or 200 butterfly.

"We just have to stand up and swim," added Crump. " It worries me that we are traveling there on the same day that we are competing, but if we stay focused I am confident that we should be able to handle it."

The Cougars hope for big performances from their upperclassmen and their talented bunch of freshmen. BYU will be led by senior captains Angela Goodson-Price on the swimming side and Angela Nelson with the divers.

This event is free to the public and will be held at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center Natatorium on the campus of the University of Houston.
