Men's Alumni Meet This Friday
PROVO -- The BYU men's swimming team will be holding its annual alumni swim meet this Friday at 6 p.m. in the Richards Building Pool in conjunction with Homecoming week.
"We have a tradition of having our alumni swim meet every Homecoming weekend," Coach Tim Powers said. "Alumni know that if they want to come we have a meet every year the Friday of Homecoming week."
Coach Powers will split up the current men's team and alumni that come to swim into two teams and let the squads compete. They will compete in all of the short races, including relays. The longest race of the evening will be the 500 free.
Alumni are encouraged to bring their spouses and children along to join in the festivities of the evening. Coach Powers will not only assume the responsibility of the announcer for the meet, but he will also be the starter.
"It is a relaxed event, and we hope that people will have fun with it," Powers said. "We expect somewhere in the range of 10-12 alumni but always hope for more to show up. That includes guys who have kids old enough to be in college and guys who graduated just last year."
The event is open to the public.
