Allen Places Second at the Spring National Championships
EAST MEADOW -- BYU senior Brett Allen completed his 2007 U.S. Spring National Championships campaign as he placed second in the 50-meter freestyle. The Championships were held March 27-31 at the Nassau County Aquatic Center in East Meadow, N.Y.
"We are really excited about Brett's swim," said BYU men's head swim coach Tim Powers. "It was the first time in a while he swam in a long course meter event. His time was really impressive and nearly won the event."
Allen, a two-time 50-yard freestyle Mountain West Conference Champion, got one step closer to qualifying for the 2008 Olympic team with his second-place finish in the 50-meter freestyle (22.79) at the Spring National Championships. Allen turned in a time of 22.92 in the preliminary round that ranked him second going into the finals.
