The BYU swimming team split a decision with UNLV after the men scored a win 122.5--107.5, and the women came up just short, losing to the Rebels 123-98. The loss is the first set back for the women in conference play while the men picked up their first conference win of the season.

Although the women faltered in the meet, the team still had strong showings from stalwarts' sophomore Brittany Davis and freshman U-nice Chan.

Davis picked up wins in the 200 free and the 500 free with times of 1:52.95 and 5:03.18. Chan also won two individual events, including the 200 fly and 1000 free with times of 2:06.31 and 10:19.69.

Another freshman continued to impress in the pool for the women when Jamie Bloom picked another first place finish in the 200 breast, touching the wall at a time of 2:20.87.

Divers Aubrey Low and Angela Nelson had strong showings in the 3-meter springboard where the duo produced a one-two finish for the Cougars.

The men were lead by impressive performances from senior Kenny Carpenter and sophomore Mark Chay who both placed first in two separate events.

Carpenter out swam the competition in the 200 free and 200 fly with times of 1:42.06 and 1:51.26.

Chay captured wins in the 100 free and the 200 IM with times of 45.35 and 1:52.14. Chay also swam the first leg of the 400 free relay that finished first in the last event of the afternoon.

The men scored big points in the diving board where senior Scott Randall and freshman Bryce Engstrom went one and two in both the 3-meter and 1-meter springboard. The duo earned a combined 26 points for the men.

Both the men and women will now return to Provo to prepare for the annual Speedo Cup in Long Beach, California, Nov. 18-20.
