BYU Swimmer To Participate in NCAA Leadership Conference
John Robert Lowry, a member of BYU's men's swimming team, has been selected to participate in the third annual NCAA Foundation Leadership Conference to be held May 31-June 4, 1999, at Disney's Wide World of Sports and Disney's Coronado Springs Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.
Lowry, a junior from Manteca, California, was chosen from among 600 student-athletes nominated by Division I member institutions.
The third annual conference will prepare a diverse group of student-athletes to take an active leadership role on their campuses and in their communities. The students will have an opportunity to discuss and explore critical issues facing them; to enhance their leadership skills; and to promote better communication among student-athletes, coaches, administrators, faculty and communities.
A total of 300 students have been invited to attend the 1999 conference. Participants will engage in a variety of developmental activities designed to enhance their communication, decision-making and problem-solving skills.
Lowry has been involved in various service and local community organizations. He's active in BYU's Student Athlete Advisory Council, a team captain on the swim team and has worked on the mentor program and the Buff Don't Puff campaign.
