Cougars face Conference Rival UNLV Friday in Las Vegas

The men's and women's swimming and diving teams will travel to Las Vegas Friday to take on conference rival UNLV at 6 p.m.

Last Weekend

The men and women swept in-state rival Utah Friday night in Salt Lake City. BYU's women won nine of 13 events, while the men claimed eight of 13 events. The women's team also finished 1-2 in six of the eight events they won.

Men Swimmers to Watch

Arunas Savickas, Junior: Swims back and free. The 1999 WAC Swimmer of the Year, Savickas won both the 100 and 200 free against Utah and led the 400 medley relay team to a dominant first-place finish.

Rob Morris, Sophomore: Swims free. Morris won both of his individual races against Utah, placing first in both the 500 and 1000 free.

Gary Tan, Freshman: Swims back. In his first collegiate meet, Tan took the 200 back event, placed second in the 200 IM and was on the winning 400 MR team.

Women Swimmers to Watch

Kirsten Mason, Senior: Swims free. Mason won both the 500 and 1000 free events against Utah, storming ahead of the next fastest swimmer in the 1000 free by over 16 seconds.

Jennifer Tasker, Junior: Swims breast. Tasker finished first in the 200 breast and was on the winning 400 medley relay team.

Tina Thompson, Sophomore: Swims back and IM. Thompson finished first in the 200 back by nearly two seconds and took second in the 200 IM against Utah.

Divers to Watch

Aaron Russell, Freshman: In his first competitive meet in over two years, Russell finished second on both the 1M and 3M boards.

Viraj Patil, Sophomore: Patil won the 3M and placed third on the IM vs. Utah.

Rachelle Smith, Senior: Smith captured the 3M event against Utah by a margin of nearly 15 points.

Anna Tutunnikova, Junior: A transfer student from Russia, Tutunnikova was the runner-up on the 3M board behind teammate Smith.
