BYU Men Drop Second Straight Meet to Washington

SEATTLE -- Competing against Washington for the second time in less than 12 hours, the BYU men's swim team fell to its third consecutive loss Saturday, 124-81.

Following a grueling Friday night meet, BYU's small swim roster of 14 swimmers was no match for the depth of the Huskies, who swam eight more athletes.

"The guys swam pretty well for the most part," said BYU men's coach Tim Powers. "We've seen some areas where we need to work a little harder and bring some of our younger guys along, but we're going to be fine."

Junior All-American Arunas Savickas and freshman phenom Gary Tan were again the highlights for the Cougars. Savickas won both the 100 and 200 free and led the 200 medley team to a first-place finish, while Tan posted a win in the 200 back. Senior John Lowry also placed second in the 200 breast event.

BYU will not face competition next week due to Thanksgiving. The Cougars will compete next in the three-day Speedo Cup competition Dec. 2-4 in Long Beach, Calif.
