BYU Divers Score High at SLAP Invite

SALT LAKE CITY -- Led by first-place finishes in three events, the BYU diving team dominated at the SLAP Holiday Diving Invitational held this weekend in Salt Lake City.

Junior transfer Anna Tutunnikova led the women, scoring a 431.25 on the 1-meter to win the event while placing second behind teammate Rachelle Smith on the 3-meter board. Freshman Kelli Einfeldt also scored high for the Cougars, taking second on the 1-meter and third on the 3-meter to give BYU a 1-2 finish on the 1-meter and a 1-2-3 placement on the 3-meter.

Freshman Aaron Russell led the men, edging Utah's Nick Smith in the 3-meter event by less than a point. Smith, last year's 1-meter WAC Champion scored 514.70 to Russell's winning score of 515.65. The men did not compete on the 1-meter board.

"We could have done better, but overall I was pleased with the consistency," BYU diving coach Keith Russell said. "It was nice to finish out the final year in the millennium in good form. We did very well."

The BYU divers will resume competition following the holiday break.
