Cribbs Shines in Zone E Championships
FEDERAL WAY, Washington – The BYU dive team completed its postseason with the NCAA Zone E Championships Wednesday at the Kings County Aquatic Center.
“The team put forth an outstanding effort over the last few days,” BYU head dive coach Tyce Rouston said. “Kennedy stepped up to the challenge and it paid off with her qualifying for the NCAA Championships. I’m extremely proud of our seniors for finishing strong and being a united team. We had great chemistry and the seniors will be missed by all.”
During the first day of the tournament, Kennedy Cribbs qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 1-meter by placing eighth in finals with a total score of 552.50. On the second day, Cribbs earned another NCAA qualifying spot by placing 11th in the 3-meter at 571.00. The diver will be able to compete in both the 1- and 3-meter events in the NCAA Championships, becoming the first female qualifier at BYU in ten years.
Mickey Strauss and Morgan Cooper competed in the men’s 3-meter finals and placed 12th and 14th with total scores of 647.55 and 612.60 respectively. Nathan Gonzales, Strauss and Cooper also represented the Cougars in the men’s 1-meter finals, placing 12th, 14th and 16th, respectively.
On the final day, Strauss, Kimble Mahler, Gonzales and Ryan Evans represented in the platform event in finals by placing in the top 18.
Cribbs will next compete in the NCAA Championships on March 18-21 in Athens, Georgia, at the Ramsey Center.
