Cribbs Records Program Best on Third Day of MPSF Championships

MONTEREY PARK, Calif. – Kennedy Cribbs recorded an all-time best score in BYU swim and dive’s program history during the third day of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships on Friday. 

“I’m proud of everyone that made it to finals,” BYU head coach John Brooks said. “We are excited to have one more day of competition ahead of us.”

Cribbs broke the 1-meter program record with a score of 337.05 to win the event. Mickey Strauss also won his second MPSF title, taking first at 416.90 in the men’s 3-meter event. 

On the swimming side, Katie McBratney finished first in the 400-yard individual medley at 4:15.61, sweeping both individual medley events. Tyler Edlefsen represented the men, taking third in his 400-yard individual medley event with a time of 3:49.97.

Gwen Gustafson secured a top-five finish, placing fourth in the women’s 200-yard freestyle at 1:48.41. Teammate Javier Matta also recorded a top-five placement for the Cougars, taking fifth in the men’s 100-yard butterfly with a time of 47.29. 

The men dominated in the 100-yard breaststroke event with Josue Dominguez earning second place with a time of 53.05 and Levi Jensen coming in fourth at 53.78. 

To finish off the meet, Brynn Sproul took second in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 53.98, and a team of Ethan Kramer, Dominguez, Matta and Connor Stirling finished in third place in the 400-yard individual medley relay. 

In the diving competition, Morgan Paul and Summer Westover secured top-five finishes placing fourth and fifth in the women’s 1-meter with scores of 282.05 and 277.35, respectively. Nathan Gonzales snatched third in the men’s 3-meter at 396.75, while Morgan Cooper took fifth with a score of 352.65. 

“We had some great competition that ended with us coming out on top,” BYU head dive coach Tyce Rouston said. “Everyone contributed their best and we are looking forward to what we can do on platform tomorrow.”

The MPSF Championships conclude Saturday, Feb 22. with swimming preliminaries at 10 a.m. PST, and finals following at 6 p.m. MST. Diving will begin Saturday with the men and women’s platform events at noon.
