Dive teams finish postseason with Zone E Diving Championships
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – BYU's men's and women's dive teams finished the postseason with the final day of Zone E Diving Championships Wednesday.
“The team gave an amazing effort under difficult circumstances through this season,” BYU dive coach Tyce Routson said. “The freshmen divers will come back next year hungry and ready to prove themselves. Senior Matt Denkers has left his mark showing what BYU diving is capable of on all three events.”
The Cougars finished the final day of the Zone E Diving Championships with both the men’s and women’s platform. All three men’s divers qualified to compete in finals. In prelims, Nathan Gonzales scored a 273.70, Matt Denkers posted a 269.50 and Kimble Mahler earned a 260.40.
In the men’s platform finals, Denkers placed 11th with a total score of 559.75, followed by Gonzales in 12th at 553.05. Mahler finished with a total score of 531.50 for 17th.
For the women, Morgan Mellow finished her season with a score of 180.55 on platform and Elizabeth Holmes earned a 149.45.
This concludes the 2017-18 swim and dive season with Mountain Pacific Sports Federation awards to be announced after NCAA competition concludes this month.
