PROVO, Utah - Payton Sorenson of BYU's swimming team travels to Indiana to compete in the 2017 Phillips 66 National Championships and World Championship Trials on Saturday.

“I’m excited to have someone representing our school and program at such a big meet,” BYU head swim coach John Brooks said. “I hope to see Payton compete well this weekend.”

Sorenson, a senior-to-be from Mesa, Arizona, has one shot to achieve a top time, as he will only be competing in the 50 freestyle at this meet. If his final time is one of the top four, he will make the world championship team. Even if Sorenson finishes in fifth or sixth place, he can still be a part of the national team.

The World Championship Trials begin Tuesday, June 27, with final events taking place on Saturday, July 1. The 50 freestyle will be the final event of the trials. For information regarding times and viewing options, please visit the USA Swimming page
