INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana– Kevin Dreesen ended his fourth and final season participating in the 3-meter during the NCAA Division I Men’s Swim and Dive Championships on Friday.

“Kevin performed some of the best dives of his season during the last two days,” BYU head swim coach John Brooks said. “I am proud of his performance here at the last meet of his Cougar career. He has represented BYU well over all four years and was a great leader for our team.”

Dreesen competed in the 3-meter event and scored 287.25 points to place him in 40th out of 50 participants. Although he did not qualify for the finals, he competed in both the 1-meter and 3-meter events at the NCAA, whereas last year he participated only in the 1-meter.

“It was a bitter-sweet experience competing today,” Dreesen said. “It’s always hard to leave behind something that you love, but I’m glad that I could end my BYU diving career at the biggest meet of the year.”

Captain of the men’s dive team, Dreesen leaves his mark at BYU as his final season comes to an end. He holds the BYU All-Time Record in the 3-meter with a score of 419.40. Dreesen also holds second place in the 1-meter with 388.75 points and platform event with a score of 340.50.

At the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships in February, Dreesen was awarded First Team All-MPSF in the 1-meter (337.80) and 3-meter (410.35) events. He was also awarded Second Team All-MPSF in the Platform diving (302.55).

Dreesen is studying exercise science and has one more year academically at BYU. He is applying to dental schools in hopes of eventually becoming an oral surgeon.

The final day of the NCAA Championships takes place on Saturday, where Payton Sorenson will be competing in the 100 freestyle event. The Saturday morning session will be streamed live on www.ncaa.com and www.indianasportscorp.org/ncaasd. ESPN3.com will live stream the Saturday evening finals.
