MONTEREY PARK and PASADENA, California – Anna Dahl, Preston Jenkins and Kevin Dreesen claim titles at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championship on Friday.

The BYU men's team is currently in third place with 412 points and the women's team is in fifth place with a score of 302.

“We had a lot of impressive times today and a couple of conference champions,” BYU head swim coach John Brooks said. “I am proud of Preston Jenkins, Anna Dahl and the dive team, for their achievements today. Overall, we’ve had a great meet and hopefully we can finish strong tomorrow.”

Jenkins took the first BYU victory of the day in the 200 freestyle. Dahl followed by winning in the 100 breaststroke and Dreesen claimed the top title in the 3-meter diving event. 

In the finals, Jenkins increased his personal best in the 200 freestyle from 1:35.96 to 1:35.40. He now holds the second-fastest school record in the event, following Jake Taylor, who holds first with 1:35.03.

Dahl broke her personal and school All-Time record in the 100 breaststroke, while also claiming a first-place victory. She qualified in the preliminaries with a winning time of 1:02.08 and improved to 1:01.23 in the finals. Dahl’s previous school record was 1:01.34.

Lauren Taylor and Ashlee Spindler, both seniors, were finalists in the 100 backstroke. Taylor qualified in the prelims with 55.26 and lowered her time in the final to 55.41 to take fourth place. Spindler swam the 100 back in 55.70 during the prelims and ended with 55.66 in the finals, placing her in fifth overall.

Rainer Ng competed in the 100 backstroke and placed sixth in the finals, registering a time of 49.21.

Junior Luis Ventura took seventh in the 100 butterfly finals and recorded a 48.31 finish, a new personal best for him. His previous fastest time was 48.84.

Dreesen claimed the top spot in the 3-meter by scoring a high of 410.35. He was just a few points shy of breaking his personal best in the event, which currently stands at 419.40.

Four additional divers from the BYU men’s team placed in the finals, with Matt Denkers taking second (393.40), Eric Muir in third (356.40), Jordan Tuckfield following in sixth (342.85) and freshman Ryan Evans ending in seventh overall (315.80).

Morgan Mellows was the top competitor for the BYU women’s dive team in the 3-meter. She finished in fifth place with 256.70 points.

The MPSF Championships will continue Saturday, with preliminaries beginning at 10 a.m. PST, followed by event finals at 6 p.m. Diving will begin at 11 a.m. at the Rose Bowl Aquatic Center in Pasadena, California. The championship trophy will be presented at 9:15 p.m. Fans can follow the meet through the live stream or live results page. Complete results will be posted on the website at the conclusion of the day’s events.
