Preston Jenkins named MPSF/Turbo Male Athlete of the Week
PROVO, Utah– Preston Jenkins, a junior swimmer from BYU, was named Mountain Pacific Sports Federation and Turbo Athlete of the Week on Wednesday.
In BYU’s most recent swim meet against No. 24 Arizona State, Jenkins took first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:40.11. In addition, he swam the lead in the men’s 400-yard freestyle relay in 45.48 and assisted his team place first in a time of 3:01.36.
Jenkins is currently ranked within the top 10 in the nation. In BYU’s all-time records, Jenkins, Jake Taylor, Connor Stirling, and Payton Sorenson currently hold first place in the men’s 400-yard freestyle relay (2:53.11). He also has current second place standings in the 100-yard backstroke (47.63) and the 200-yard backstroke (1:43.41).
Growing up in Jacksonville Florida, Jenkins prepped at The Bolles School under coach Sergio Lopez Miro. Since coming to BYU, he has assisted the men’s swim team in two of its three standing MPSF championship years. Jenkins recently participated in the 2016 Olympic trials for the 100 and 200 backstroke, placing 37th and 44th, respectively.
This is Jenkin’s second career MPSF weekly award (Nov. 21, 2012). Jenkin's honor is the second for BYU this year, joining Lauren Shaw Taylor who won the MPSF award three weeks ago.
