Scholar All-American honors earned by swim teams
PROVO, Utah — Scholar All-American recognition was awarded to the BYU men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams by The College of Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America.
The men’s 2015-2016 team qualified with a cumulative GPA of 3.29 and the women’s team earned a GPA of 3.24.
"It is always an honor have both teams on the Scholar All-American list each year,” BYU coach John Brooks said. "The swimmers and divers are a great example of being a student first."
This CSCAA recognition comes as a result of each team’s classroom performance in the past semester. The team must collectively reach a 3.00 grade point average or higher in order to qualify. It is also noted that these high GPA’s are especially impressive, given the rigorous course load taken by most swimmers.
The following swimmers earned some of the top GPA’s on the team to help qualify for this recognition:
Men’s:
- Ryan Sorensen - 3.90, mechanical engineering pre-professional
- Jordan Tuckfield - 3.89, exercise science
- Kevin Dreesen - 3.79, exercise science
- Matt Denkers - 3.74, management
- Stephen Richards -3.73 in health science
- Rainer Ng -3.71, business strategy
- Preston Jenkins - 3.71, exercise science
- Connor Stirling - 3.66, open major
- Luis Ventura - 3.54, facilities management
Women’s:
