Dreesen earns trip to NCAA Championships at Zones

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Kevin Dreesen qualified to dive at NCAA Championships as he led the Cougars in the NCAA Zone E Diving Championships at the Northern Arizona University Aquatic and Tennis Center on Tuesday.

"I am so proud of Kevin's composure toward reaching his potential to qualify for his first NCAA Championship on 1-meter," BYU head diving coach Tyce Routson said. "He kept his cool and attacked his last dive to edge out some great divers. Our women performed much better today in an unsually long event. Ali and Kaela stayed relaxed and built good momentum that will carry into their platform events tomorrow."

Dreesen and Matt Denkers both qualified for the 1-meter dive final, with Dreesen earning a 328.85 and Denkers diving a 275.75 in the preliminaries. Dreesen then posted a 654.20 for seventh place, good enough to qualify him for the NCAA Championships later this month.

In the women's 3-meter preliminaries, Ali Tippetts-Kottcamp and Kaela Call finished 33rd and 34th, posting scores of 246.70 and 246.15, respectively.
