Ventura competes at the National Olympics of Mexico

SAN NICOLAS DE LOS GARZA, Nuevo Leon, Mexico – BYU freshman Luis Ventura competed at the National Olympics of Mexico held April 24-29 at the Centro Acuático Olímpico Universitario de la U.A.N.

Ventura competed in seven events at the National Olympics of Mexico in hopes of qualifying for the World University Games, which will be held July 3-14 in Gwangju City, South Korea. The Mexican Swimming Federation will announce its roster for the World University Games in the coming weeks.

A native of Guanajuato, Mexico, Ventura turned in a strong performance, claiming top 5 finishes in four event finals, including the 1500-meter freestyle, the 400-meter freestyle, the 800-meter freestyle and the 400-meter individual medley.

Ventura is coming off a freshman season in which he earned All-MPSF First Team honors for his performance in the 500-yard freestyle. He also earned All-MPSF Second Team honors for performances in the 800-yard freestyle relay, 400-yard individual medley and the 1650-yard freestyle.

Prior to coming to BYU, Ventura had the opportunity to represent Mexico at the 2013 Junior World Championships.
