PROVO, Utah – Junior Jake Taylor was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation/TURBO Male Athlete of the Week for his performance against UNLV Saturday.

"I’ve know Jake for a long time and he loves to race and he wants to race fast all year," head coach John Brooks said. "He wants go to the NCAA's real bad and represent BYU. He deserves the recognition and he'll continue working hard the rest of this season."

Taylor led the Cougars to their first dual meet victory of the season defeating the Rebels 163-135. Taylor won both the 100-yard (48.16) and 200-yard backstroke (1:48.70). Taylor’s 100 back is tied for the eighth fastest time in the country this year. His 100 and 200 back times in Las Vegas are the two fastest times in the MPSF this season. Taylor was also the anchor for the winning 400-yard freestyle relay, swimming his leg in 45.08.

This is the third weekly award of Taylor’s career and second of this season. He is the only Cougar to win the award so far this year.
