Swim season starts with alumni meet
PROVO, Utah – The BYU swim and dive teams host their annual alumni meet Friday, Sept. 19, at 5 p.m. MDT at the Richards Building Pool.
“We’re always excited to have alumni come back,” head coach John Brooks said. “Sometimes you have people who haven’t been back for ten or twenty years and others come back every year. We always have a good mix of people who come swim.”
The meet is more of an opportunity for current swimmers to learn from and interact with former swimmers than to be fast in the pool. Brooks doesn’t expect his swimmers to post career bests but is glad they have the opportunity to get in the water and get some good work done in a more relaxed environment.
“It’s more about just having a good time between our alumni and current swimmers,” Brooks said. “It also helps having recruits there because the alumni can say, ‘Hey I came to BYU for these reasons and I remember everything about this program.’ It’s just a nice moment for those alumni who come back and enjoy a fun time.”
Pizza will be provided following the meet and alumni are asked to make a small donation to help subsidize the cost of the food.
Alumni are encouraged to RSVP on the BYU swimming and diving alumni page on Facebook.
