Miles Batty Two-Time WCC Runner of the Month
SAN BRUNO, Calif.--Senior Miles Batty was named the West Coast Conference Men’s Runner of the Month for the second month in a row.
Batty, a senior from Sandy, Utah, won the individual title at the 2011 WCC Cross Country Championships on October 29 at the Crystal Springs Course in Belmont, Calif. His time of 23:49 in the 8K shattered the old course record, formerly held by Portland's Alfred Kipchumba - who ran a 24:20 in 2009.
The No. 3 Cougars edged the University of Portland, a team that had won 32-consecutive conference championships, 25 to 32, to capture the 2011 WCC Men's Championship. Batty also finished seventh overall at the Wisconsin Invitational with a time of 23:36 on October 14. BYU finished second behind No. 1 Wisconsin.
Batty was named to the WCC All-Academic team this week and the All-WCC team following the conference championships.
In his collegiate cross country career, Batty has been named the MWC Player of the Week three times, WCC Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Month twice, has been the individual champion at two conference championships, was named 2010 USTFCCCA All-American and the 2010 MWC Cross Country Male Athlete of the Year.
Next for Batty and the Cougars is the Mountain Region Championships, which will be held on Nov. 12 at the East Bay Golf Course in Provo, Utah. More information on the region championships can be found at www.byutrack.com.
