Four Cougars Named to 2011 WCC Cross Country All-Academic Team

SAN BRUNO, Calif.--Miles Batty, Alden Bahr, Katy Andrews and Sarah Edwards were named to the West Coast Conference 2011 Cross Country All-Academic Team.

Batty, a senior from Sandy, Utah, won the 2011 WCC Cross Country Championships individual title last weekend, breaking the course record with a time of 23:47.  He was also named the WCC Runner of the Month for September.  Batty is double majoring in neuroscience and exercise science.

Bahr, a senior from Orem, Utah, also earned all-academic status.  Finishing seventh in the WCC Championships, Bahr is also double majoring, but in Spanish and neuroscience.

Both Bahr and Batty were also named to the All-WCC team earlier in the season.

Other Cougars garnered all-academic honorable mention, including Curtis Carr, Steve Flint, Conner Peloquin and Rex Shields.

Andrews, a senior from Encinitas, Calif., has been the Cougars second in command all season.  Andrews finished fourth in the conference championships, and helped the Cougars secure a second place finish in their first year in the WCC.  Andrews is majoring in exercise and wellness, and was also named to the All-WCC team following the conference championships.

Edwards is a junior from North Salt Lake, Utah, majoring in elementary education.  Edwards helped her team place sixth in the Notre Dame Invitational and 10th in the Griak Invitational.

Athletes from the women’s team who also earned honorable mention include Kendy Christensen, Sarah Darby, Candace Eddy, Michaelanne Laurent and Nicole Nielsen.
