Cross Country Team and Batty Earn All-Academic Cross Country Honors

NEW -- The BYU men's cross country team was recognized for its work in the classroom by the USTFCCCA in earning 2010 Division I All-Academic Cross Country Team status. Junior Miles Batty also earned an individual All-Academic honor as well.

The Cougars maintained a 3.31 cumulative team GPA. BYU had the highest team GPA of the three Mountain West Conference schools honored, including Colorado State and Wyoming.

To qualify as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Team, the team must have had a cumulative team GPA of 3.00 or better and have started at least five regional at their respective NCAA regional championship.

Batty, a Jordan High School alumni and Sandy native currently holds a 3.96 GPA while studying neuroscience. He also has been recognized as an Academic All-MWC athlete.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have either earned USTFCCCA All-America status or finished in the NCAA region’s top 15 (or top 10 percent) in 2010.

At the NCAA Championships last fall, Batty finished 15th overall with a 10k time of 30:09.4 to earn All-American honors and lead the Cougars to an 18th place finish overall.

Batty won the MWC individual cross country championship with an 8k time of 25:01.6 while being named the MWC cross country Male Athlete of the Year and garnering first team All-MWC honors.
