Wagner is Athlete of the Week Once Again
TCU junior Festus Kigen and BYU junior Angela Wagner have been selected as the Mountain West Conference men’s and women’s cross country athletes of the week, respectively.
“This race was fun for a lot of different reasons, despite the fact that I was a little sick going into it,” said Wagner. “It was nice to beat Colorado State and I’m excited to keep training and getting ready for pre-nationals. I just keep focusing on one week at a time and doing all I can to do my best in each race.”
Wagner, from Centurion, Pretoria, South Africa, placed first for the Cougars and 12th overall at the Bill Dellinger Invitational last Saturday in Oregon. She clocked a 6K time of 21:14 and now leads the Conference for the fastest time of that distance. Wagner’s competition included No. 1 Oregon, No. 11 Arkansas and No. 17 Colorado State. This is her second weekly honor of the season.
“This is a nice honor for Angela,” said BYU women’s cross country head coach Patrick Shane. “She ran under difficult circumstances and against some of the best teams. This is her second time winning this award this season and I think it’s well-deserved.”
