Wagner Wins Athlete of the Week
Wyoming senior Mark Korir and BYU junior Angela Wagner have been selected as the Mountain West Conference men’s and women’s cross country athletes of the week, respectively.
"It's fun to have a good race, and one that all the girls were so happy with," said Wagner. "I'm glad to have a race that showed the training I put in over the summer."
Wagner, from South Africa, led the Cougars to a first-place finish at the Bob Firman Invitational held in Eagle, Idaho last Saturday. She finished the women’s 5K course with a time of 18:19, nearly ten seconds ahead of teammate Katy Andrews who secured second-place. Wagner’s time set a new course record and currently ranks third on the MWC Best Times List this season.
“I am really happy for Angela,” said BYU women’s cross country head coach Patrick Shane. “She delivered a performance that was commendable, despite the terrible conditions she ran in. This was a tough course, but she excelled and deserves this award.”
