COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – BYU senior Kyle Perry and Air Force junior Brittany Morreale have been selected as the Mountain West Conference men’s and women’s cross country athletes of the week, respectively.

Perry was BYU’s top runner last Saturday, leading the Cougars to a first-place team finish at the 64th Annual Aztec Invitational, held in San Diego, Calif. The Sandy, Utah, native, crossed the finish line in third-place during the men’s 8K race in 24:42, a time that currently ranks first on the MWC Best Times List for that distance. A total of 17 teams competed, including 162 individuals. BYU had four runners finish in the top-10.

The two-time All-American ran a 4:59 mile pace, 21 seconds ahead of the nearest conference competitor aside from two of Perry’s teammates, Brandon Hebbert and Stephan Shay.

“The top five runners were under the course record,” said BYU coach Ed Eyestone. “This was a hilly course, but it was nice to see Kyle resume his position as one of our top runners. He had a cramp the week before, so this is an indication he will always be close to the front.”
