PROVO -- The BYU men's Cross Country team was named in the top 10 of the All-Academic Cross Country Teams. The men were given the award with distinction for their combined cumulative GPA of 3.34.

To earn distinctive honors, the team must have a cumulative combined GPA of 3.25 or higher. Out of over 300 Division I cross country teams in the country, the Cougar men were ranked in the top ten with schools such as Yale and Stanford.

"It was an outstanding honor to achieve and to be recognized with many of the Ivy League Schools," said Coach Ed Eyestone. "I would put our athletes up against the top athletes in the nation athletically and academically."

Coach Eyestone commented that while the list included many great academically acclaimed schools, only Stanford finished higher in nationals than BYU.

Runners with the combined GPA honored include Academic All-MWC and two-time All-American, MWC Runner of the Year and first-team All-MWC runner Josh Rohatinsky; MWC Freshman of the Year and second-team All-MWC Jacob Gustafsson with a 3.80 GPA in Management; and MWC Athlete of the Week and first-team All-MWC Dusin Bybee.

Belmont University had the highest cumulative combined GPA of 3.65, followed by Missouri State University (3.56 GPA) and Drake University (3.52 GPA).
