Turner, a Finalist For Honda Sports Award

PROVO -- Four-time All-American Laura Turner has been nominated as one of four finalists for the 2004-2005 Cross Country Honda Sports Award.

The winner of the Honda Sports Award will then be nominated for The Honda-Broderick Cup, which is awarded to the nation's most outstanding collegiate woman athlete of the year.

Turner, a senior from Clifton, Va., helped guide the Cougars to an eighth place finish at this year's NCAA Cross Country Championships in Terre Haute, Ind., by finishing fourth (20:37.5) overall and joining Michaela Mannova as the only two female athletes at BYU to finish fourth at the NCAA Championships; a mark that has not been surpassed.

Along with her fourth place finish, Turner joined Elizabeth Jackson as the only two female athletes in BYU's cross country history to have earned four All-American citations during their careers at BYU.

Caroline Bierbaum, from Columbia University, Renee Metivier from the University of Colorado and Kimberly Smith, from Providence College join Turner as the four nominees' for the 2004-2005 Honda Sports Award.

The winner of the Honda Sports Award will be decided by a nationwide vote among NCAA member schools and will be announced Dec. 6, 2004.
