BYU's John Hedengren Named Cross Country Athlete of the Week
PROVO, Utah (September 29) -- John Hedengren was named Mountain West Conference cross country Athlete of the Week today for his seventh-place finish at the Roy Griak Invitational over the weekend.
Hedengren, a junior from Richland, Wa., has been the Cougars' top finisher in both meets so far this year. His finish at the Roy Griak Invitational led BYU to a second-place team finish. He ran the 8K event in 24:37, the second-fastest time in the conference this season.
The Cougars beat eight teams ranked ahead of them in the top 25 to jump from No. 27 to No. 6 in the coaches' poll released Tuesday.
The Cougars' next meet is the Stanford Invitational Saturday, Oct. 2.
