John Hedengren Named Mountain West's Athlete of the Week a Second Time
PROVO, Utah (October 20) - For the second time in three weeks in which he has competed, BYU's John Hedengren, a junior from Richland, Wa., has been named the Mountain West Conference's cross country Athlete of the Week.
The honor was awarded to Hedengren based on his 13th-place finish at the Pre-NCAA Invitational last weekend in Bloomington, Ind. He ran the eight-kilometer course in 24:32, the best time in the conference this year. His time helped lead the Cougars to an eighth-place finish in a field stacked with 35 of the nation's best teams.
Hedengren has led the team to the finish line in all three meets this season, and looks to continue in the Cougars' next meet, the Mountain West Conference Championships Oct. 29 at Provo's East Bay golf course. The meet is free to the public and is scheduled for a 4:30 p.m. start.
