USA TODAY honors cross country signee Teeples
PROVO, Utah – BYU men’s cross country signee Isaac Teeples was honored as a nominee for the 2021-2022 USA TODAY High School Boys Cross Country Runner of the Year when the organization released its list on March 30.
Teeples is among 24 boys cross country athletes nominated for the prestigious national high school award. Nominees will be honored and a winner announced during a broadcast on July 31.
Each year the USA TODAY High School Sports Awards recognize the nation’s best in high school athletics. Teeples is not the only incoming Cougar among the nominees. BYU women’s volleyball signee Eden Bower was featured as a candidate for High School Girls Volleyball Player of the Year.
The USA TODAY nomination adds to the tally of Teeples’ many high school cross country honors. Teeples toppled the competition as an athlete at Kamiakin High School in Kennewick, Washington. A two-time individual and three-time team state champion, Teeples set the state and school record in the 5k. His talents stretched beyond Washington as he recorded two top-5 finishes at NXR Northwest with back-to-back team wins in 2018 and 2019. To cap off his high school career, Teeples was named First Team High School All-American at the 2021 Runninglane Cross Country Championships.
Teeples was also recruited by North Carolina, Colorado, Gonzaga, Washington and Washington State. He is expected to compete with the team as a freshman in 2022.
