NEW ORLEANS – BYU men’s cross country topped the USTFCCCA NCAA Division I National Coaches' Poll and the women’s team moved up to No. 2, the association announced Wednesday.

For the first time since the USTFCCCA poll began in 1998, the BYU men’s cross country team is ranked No. 1 during the regular season. The defending national champions ended last season atop the final rankings but opened as the No. 2 team in the preseason poll.

On Monday, Junior All-American Conner Mantz won the Silver State XC Challenge individual title while leading the men’s team to a first-place finish over No. 1 NAU, No. 4 Notre Dame, No. 18 Washington, No. 24 Weber State and No. 27 Air Force.

The women’s squad moved up one spot in this week’s USTFCCCA poll to No. 2. The Cougars ended the season No. 2 in the final rankings after finishing second overall at the 2019 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships.

The BYU women’s squad took first place at the Silver State XC Challenge on Monday over No. 8 Washington, No. 13 Boise State, No. 18 Utah and No. 26 NAU.
