Rory Linkletter captures October WCC Men’s Runner of the Month
SAN BRUNO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference has announced that BYU junior Rory Linkletter is the WCC Men’s Runner of the Month for October.
In BYU’s first of two meets in October, Linkletter finished first among 282 runners at the Pre-Nationals Invitational in Louisville, Kentucky. The team captain led the No. 2 Cougars to a first-place finish with a time of 23:08.4. It was the first time BYU has captured the team title at the prestigious event with a tally of 41 points. Three Cougars finished in the top-10 with all five scorers in the top-15.
A 2016 cross country All-American, Linkletter placed fourth behind his fellow teammates in the West Coast Conference Championships, helping BYU to a perfect score in the meet. It marked the first time since 2003 (Portland) that a men’s team posted a perfect score at the conference meet and the 12th time overall. The meet vaulted BYU to a No. 1 ranking in the Mountain Region for the first time since 2012.
Linkletter leads the No. 2 Cougars into NCAA Mountain Regional competition Friday, Nov. 10, in Logan, Utah.
