NEW ORLEANS — As the 2017 cross country season approaches, the USTFCCCA rankings put BYU's men's and women's cross country teams in the top-10 both regionally and nationally.

BYU's men's cross country team ranks sixth nationally, and third regionally. The Cougars are a top-10 mainstay year in and year out. The women's team ranks ninth nationally, marking the highest for the program since ranking sixth in 2006. The Cougars rank third regionally.

During the 2016 season, the men's cross country team finished first in the West Coast Conference Championship, third in the regional championship and seventh in the NCAA Cross Country Championships. The women's team finished second in the West Coast Conference Championship, fifth in the regional championship and 10th in the NCAA Cross Country Championships.

The USTFCCCA Regional Cross Country Rankings are determined subjectively by a single member coach in each respective region. The regional representative is tasked with weighing returning teams' strength in determining predicted team finishes at the NCAA Regional Championships. A coaches' poll also determines the national rankings.
