Three cross country athletes awarded with All-American honors

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The BYU men’s and women’s cross country teams left the NCAA National Championship in Terre Haute, Ind., with two top-10 team finishes and three All-American athletes.

Men’s runners senior Nico Montanez and sophomore Rory Linkletter placed ninth and 32nd, respectively, and with the top-40 finishes were both named All-Americans. This is the first time each athlete has recieved the national honor for cross country.

On the women’s side, sophomore Erica Birk finished in 34th overall and was also given the honor of All-American with her top-40 finish. This is the sophomore’s first individual award at a national meet.

The men’s seventh-place finish and the women’s 10th-place finish mark the first time since 1995 that both BYU cross country teams finished in the top 10 at Nationals. The women finished in the top 10 for the first time since 2005.
