Cougars to host Autumn Classic

PROVO, Utah – In the last six years, the venue for the BYU Autumn Classic has changed, but the winning men’s team has stayed the same. BYU hosts the 2014 BYU Autumn Classic at Clarence F. Robison Track and Field Complex, having won the event six years straight.

“We’ve been successful at our home meet because we’ve taken it seriously,” head coach Ed Eyestone said. “We put our best runners in uniform even though it’s an early season meet.”

UCLA, Weber State and Idaho State are the teams that threaten BYU’s streak. UCLA comes into the meet ranked 24th.

“We’ll be particularly challenged by UCLA,” Eyestone said. “They have a very good men’s squad.”

BYU will feature the same runners from last week’s Utah Open, plus true freshman Connor McMillan and junior Aaron Fletcher. McMillan and Fletcher, who ran unattached, would have finished third and fifth for the Cougars.

Eyestone figures McMillan will be a constant point scorer for BYU this year.

“Connor did his work in the summertime and came into camp very fit,” Eyestone said. “It was no surprise he finished where he did last week.”

 The Autumn Classic is BYU’s only home meet this season. The men’s race will be a four-mile race and will start at 9:45 a.m. MDT.
