BYU women's teams ranked No. 22 in Capital One Cup Winter Standings

PROVO, Utah – Thanks to strong performances by women’s volleyball, soccer and cross country in the fall, BYU is currently ranked No. 22 in the Women’s Cup of the Capital One Cup Winter Standings.

For the fifth-straight season, the women’s volleyball team advanced to the round of 16 in the NCAA Tournament. Led by senior All-America middle blocker Amy Boswell, the Cougars finished with a 28-4 record, won the West Coast Conference title and posted a final national ranking of No. 8 in the AVCA Coaches Poll.

Women’s soccer advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the fifth-straight season and compiled a record of 18-3-1. With first-team All-American Ashley Hatch and WCC Player of the Year Michele Vasconcelos leading the way, the Cougars finished the season with a No. 9 national ranking and tied for first in the WCC.

With first-year coach Diljeet Taylor at the helm, BYU women’s cross country had its best season in more than a decade. The Cougars went to the NCAA Championships and took 10th, its best finish since 2005. Sophomore Erica Birk was BYU’s top runner as she took 34th overall to earn All-America honors.

About the Capital One Cup

The Capital One Cup is awarded annually to each of the best men's and women's Division I college athletics programs in the country. Points toward the Capital One Cup are earned and tracked throughout the year based on final standings of NCAA Championships and final official coaches' polls. One winning men's and one winning women's program will be crowned after the completion of the final NCAA spring championships. Capital One will award a combined $400,000 in student-athlete scholarships and the Capital One Cup trophy to the winning schools at the ESPY awards in July.
