Rong Ma joined the staff in the summer of 2021.
Prior to joining Porter’s staff, Ma served as an assistant coach for the University of Hawaii women’s tennis team and the BYU-Hawaii men’s and women’s tennis teams.
As a player at BYU-Hawaii, Ma earned Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) DII All-America honors. He was also recognized as the ITA’s winner of the DII West Region’s Arthur Ashe Jr. Award for Leadership and Sportsmanship.
Ma won the ITA’s DII Senior Player of the Year award for the West Region in his final season.
In his first year as an assistant coach for the Seasiders, Ma was voted the ITA’s Assistant Coach of the Year for the DII West Region in 2012.
After graduating from BYU-Hawaii with a degree in exercise sports science, Ma earned his Master's of Science in Kinesiology and Doctor of Philosophy degree in Education from the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa.
Ma is a member of the United States Professional Tennis Association and was ranked in both singles and doubles during his playing career by the Association of Tennis Professionals.
