Cougars to host BYU at Entrada Classic

PROVO, Utah — BYU women’s golf will host its annual BYU at Entrada Classic March 12-13 at the Entrada at Snow Canyon Country Club in Saint George, Utah.

The Cougars will participate in the event alongside 13 other competing universities: Boise State, Kent State, North Carolina, Oral Roberts, Oregon State, Santa Clara, SMU, SUU, Texas Tech, Tulsa, UT-San Antonio, UVU and Wyoming.

The golf course will be played at par-72 and 6,098 yards. Teams will play 36 holes on Monday, followed by 18 holes on Tuesday. Play will begin at 8:30 a.m. MST in a shotgun start.

Soifua in top 25, No. 46 Cougars finish ninth

FAIRFAX, Calif. — Freshman Naomi Soifua tied for 24th place as No. 46 BYU women’s golf placed ninth at the Meadow Club Women’s Collegiate. 

“Today wasn’t the best day for us,” BYU head coach Carrie Roberts said. “We have plenty to work on and look forward to playing on our home course next week.”

BYU fired 297-304 on Tuesday to shoot +25 for the event. No. 15 Washington recorded the victory, shooting -3 in the 36-hole tournament. West Coast Conference foes San Francisco and Gonzaga finished in second and 16th place, respectively.

Soifua carded a 75 in the final round to shoot +4 for the tournament. The freshman ended the front nine with a birdie on the ninth hole, and then birdied holes 11, 14 and 15. Soifua has finished in the top-25 in all three of the Cougars' spring tournaments. 

Kendra Dalton carded 74-76 to finish the Meadow Club Women's Collegiate at +6. Dalton finished in 31st place.

Rose Huang fired a pair of 76s to tie for 41st place. Huang ended the tournament at +8.

Anna Kennedy tied for 60th place while Annie Yang tied for 64th. Kennedy carded a final-round 81 and Yang fired a 77.

The Cougars look to bounce back next week as they host the BYU at Entrada Classic March 12-13.

Cougars to compete in Meadow Club Women's Collegiate

PROVO, Utah — No. 46 BYU women’s golf will compete in the Meadow Club Women’s Collegiate March 5-6 at the Meadow Club in Fairfax, California. 

The Cougars will participate alongside 15 other competing universities: hosts San Francisco and San Jose State, Boston College, Cal, Cal Poly, UC Davis, Colorado, Gonzaga, Idaho, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, Oregon State, Washington and Washington State. 

Teams will play 54 holes over the course of two days on the par-72, 6,157-yard course. Competitors will play 36 holes on Monday, followed by 18 holes on Tuesday.

Dalton finishes first, Cougars take third at Rebel Beach

LAS VEGAS — Behind a first-place finish from senior Kendra Dalton, BYU women's golf took third at The Rebel Beach held at Spanish Trail Country Club on Tuesday.

"I thought we played solid today," BYU head coach Carrie Roberts said. "We had the second-best score today and also posted the second-best score in round two, which shows a lot of toughness. I am really proud of Kendra (Dalton). She played solid today."

Dalton fired a final-round 72 to claim first place at The Rebel Beach. She finished the tournament at even par to record her second first-place individual finish of the season. Dalton also received medalist honors at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational in Oct. 2017.

The Cougars shot +2 on Tuesday to finish the tournament at +22 and take third. Host UNLV stayed atop the leaderboard, claiming the victory at +17.

Naomi Soifua recorded her second-straight top-10 finish at The Rebel Beach. She finished the tournament at +6 to tie for seventh place. The freshman also placed seventh at The Gold Rush earlier this month.

Rose Huang placed in the top-20 for the sixth time this season. Huang fired a 74 in round three to tie for 17th place at +9.

Annie Yang and Anna Kennedy tied for 32nd and 57th, respectively. Yang carded 78 in the third round, while Kennedy shot even par (72). 

The Cougars will participate in the Meadow Club Women's Intercollegiate March 5-6, before they host the annual BYU at Entrada Classic March 12-13 in Saint George, Utah.

Cougars continue spring season at The Rebel Beach

PROVO, Utah — BYU women’s golf will continue its 2017-18 season as the Cougars will compete in The Rebel Beach Feb. 26-27 in Las Vegas.

The Rebel Beach, hosted by UNLV and Long Beach State, will be played over two days, with teams playing 36 holes on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday.

The field features 12 teams: hosts UNLV and Long Beach State, BYU, Colorado, Idaho, Kennesaw State, Nevada, New Mexico, Northern Arizona, Ole Miss, UC Irvine and Wyoming.

Teams will compete on the Par-72, 6,355-yard course at Spanish Trail Country Club.

BYU women claim second place at The Gold Rush

LONG BEACH, Calif. —  Behind top-20 finishes from Naomi Soifua, Kendra Dalton and Rose Huang, No. 45 BYU women’s golf placed second on Tuesday at The Gold Rush. With the runner-up finish, BYU women’s golf records its best finish of the 2017-18 season.

"I am encouraged by our play in the last two rounds," BYU head coach Carrie Roberts said. "We shot ourselves out of it in the first round, but I loved the way we battled back."

After firing the lowest team score (+5) in the second round, the Cougars shot +7 in the final round to claim second place at +24. Georgia recorded the victory, shooting +19 as a team through 54 holes. WCC foes Santa Clara and Gonzaga finished in ninth place and 13th place, respectively.

Soifua led the Cougars in round three, carding a team-low 72. The freshman tied for seventh place at The Gold Rush to record her best finish as a Cougar. She finished the event at +6.

Dalton and Huang tied for 12th place, both shooting +8 in the 54-hole event. Dalton fired a final-round 73, while Huang carded a 74.

Anna Kennedy and Annie Yang both shot +12 in three rounds of play. Kennedy shot a 76 on Tuesday, while Yang fired an 80. The pair tied for 30th place.

The Cougars will continue their spring season on Feb. 26-27 at The Rebel Beach hosted by UNLV.

Cougars to begin spring season at The Gold Rush

PROVO, Utah — BYU women’s golf will resume its 2017-18 season as the Cougars travel to Long Beach, California, to compete in The Gold Rush on Feb. 12-13.

The Cougars finished third in two fall tournaments — The Coeur d’Alene Resort Collegiate and the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational. Kendra Dalton led the Cougars in the fall and received medalist honors at the Edean Ihlandfelt Invitational.

The Gold Rush field features 14 teams: host Long Beach State, Boston College, Boise State, BYU, Colorado State, Fresno State, Georgia, Idaho, Sacramento State, Seattle, Cal Poly, UC Irvine and WCC foes Gonzaga and Santa Clara.

Participating universities will compete on the par 72, 6,189 yard El Dorado Golf Course. Teams will play 54 holes over the course of two days.

Huang records top-10 finish as Cougars place ninth at SMU Trinity Forest

DALLAS — Rose Huang tied for 10th place at the SMU Trinity Forest Invitational while No. 45 BYU women’s golf placed ninth on Tuesday at Trinity Forest Golf Club.

The Cougars fired a final-round 308 (+20) to shoot +53 through 54 holes. Kansas State shot +14 in round three to edge Houston for the first-place victory.

“As a team, we struggled this week,” BYU head coach Carrie Roberts said. “We let the course beat us up, but it showed us where we need to get better and what we need to work on. It was really good to see Rose (Huang) manage herself so well this week.”

Huang carded 75 in round three to shoot 3-over on the day and finish the tournament at +8. The junior tied for 10th place individually, recording her second top-10 finish of the season.

Aiko Leong tied for 21st place at +13. The sophomore fired a third-round 77 on Tuesday, birdying a team-high four holes. Kendra Dalton finished the SMU Trinity Forest Invitational at 16-over, tying for 34th place.

Anna Kennedy and Naomi Soifua fired a pair of 78s in round three. Kennedy tied for 41st at +19, while Soifua tied for 45th at +20.

The Cougars will resume their 2017-18 season on Feb. 19-20 at the UCF Invitational in Orlando, Florida.
