PROVO, Utah (Nov. 25)-- The 17th-ranked BYU men's swimming and diving team defeated conference rival UNLV 143-98 while the women's team fell to the Rebels 130-113 Saturday, at the Richards

Building Pool.

The men's team was led by senior All-American Arunas Savickas and sophomore Gary

Tan. Savickas won the 200 free, dominated the 500 free, winning by more than nine

seconds, and swam on the winning 400 medley relay team. Tan finished first in the 200 IM

and the 200 back, and also swam on the winning 400 medley relay team. Nick Tobler also

swam well for the Cougars Tobler dominated the 200 breast and also was a member of the winning 400 medley relay team with Savickas and Tan. The 400 free relay team comprised of Jeff Mason, Mike Mullen, Billy Betz and Jay Buys edged out the Rebels' team for first-place.

"This is a nice win for us," head men's coach Tim Powers said. "UNLV is swimming well and just came off a win at the Nebraska Husker Shootout."

Heidi Lietz won the 50 free and finished second in the 100 free while teammate Nikki Tadlock finished second and third behind Lietz in the 50 and 100 free, respectively. Amy Mclellan, Melissa Thompson and Tina Adkinson finished 1-2-3 for the Cougars in the 200 back while Tamber Covington, Amanda Grant and Jennifer Tasker finished 1-2-3 in the 200 breast.

At the other end of the pool, the men's diving team grabbed the top-three spots on the 1-meter board. Aaron Russell won the event followed Viraj Patil and Justin Wilcock, who finished third. Patil won 3-meter event while Russell and Wilcock finished second and third, respectively. Kelli Einfeldt won the women's 3-meter event and teammate Aubrie Cropper finished second. Tessa Clark won the 1-meter board for the Cougars while also finishing third on the 3-meter board. Tessa Dahl finished third for the Cougars.

Both the men's and women's swimming and diving teams will travel to Long Beach, Calif.,

to participate in the Speedo Cup, Nov. 30-Dec. 2.

Last Weekend

The men's and women's diving teams competed in the USC Diving Invitational Thursday through Saturday. Sophomore Justin Wilcock finished second in the 3M event, third on the platform and eighth on the 1M board. Viraj Patil took seventh-place on the 3M board, fourth in the 1M event and fifth on the platform. Aaron Russell finished fifth on the 3M board, second in the 1M event and ninth on the platform. Kelli Einfeldt finished fourth on the 3M board and seventh on the 1M board. Aubrie Cropper finished eighth in the 1M event while finishing 14th on the 3M board.

Men Swimmers to Watch

Arunas Savickas, senior: Swims back and free. Won the 200 free and led the 400 free relay team to a first-place finish on Nov. 3. Won the 100, 200 and 500 free, and led the 200 medley relay team to a first-place finish on Nov. 4, at the Big West Shootout. Has conference-best times in the 100 free, 200 free and 500 free.

Gary Tan, sophomore: Swims back and IM. Tan won the 200 IM and the 200 back, and was on the winning 400 free relay team on Nov. 3. Won the 100 and 200 back, and was on the winning 200 medley relay team on Nov. 4, at the Big West Shootout. Has conference-best times in the 200 back and the 200 IM.

Nick Tobler, freshman: Swims breast. Tobler won the 100 breast on Nov. 3, at the Big West Shootout. Finished second in the 200 breast and swam on the winning 200 medley relay team on Nov. 4. Has conference-best times in the 100 and 200 breast.

Women Swimmers to Watch

Heidi Lietz, sophomore: Swims free and fly. Lietz won the 50 free and the 100 fly, and swam on winning 200 medley relay team on Nov. 9, at a four-way dual meet. Won the 50 free, 100 free, 200 free, 100 fly, and helped the 200 free, 200 medley, 400 free, and 400 medley relay teams to first-place finishes at the Lobo Invitational, Nov. 10-11. Has conference-best times in the 50 and 100 free.

Ashlee Rumfallow, sophomore: Swims back and fly. Rumfallow won the 100 free, swam on the winning 200 medley relay team, and finished second in the 200 IM on Nov. 9, at a four-way dual meet. Won the 400 IM, finished second in the 200 IM, and swam on the winning 200 free, 400 free and 400 medley relay teams at the the Lobo Invitational, Nov. 10-11.

Jennifer Tasker, senior: Swims breast. Tasker won the 100 breast and swam on the winning 200 medley relay team on Nov. 9, at a four-way dual meet. Won the 100 and 200 breast, and swam on the winning 200 and 400 medley relay teams, at the Lobo Invitational, Nov. 10-11. Has conference-best time in the 100 breast.

Divers to Watch

Aaron Russell, sophomore: Russell finished second on the 1M board and fifth on the 3M board at the USC Diving Invitational, Nov. 16-18. Has conference-best score on the 3M board.

Justin Wilcock, sophomore: Wilcock finished second on the 3M board and third on the platform at the USC Diving Invitational, Nov. 16-18.

Viraj Patil, junior: Patil finished fourth on the 1M board and fifth on the platform at the USC Diving Invitational, Nov. 16-18.

Kelli Einfeldt, sophomore: Einfeldt finished fourth on the 3M board and seventh on the 1M board at the USC Diving Invitational, Nov. 16-18.

Aubrie Cropper, sophomore: Cropper finished eighth on the 1M board and 14th on the 3M board at the USC Diving Invitational, Nov. 16-18.
